Develop professional skills and start building a professional portfolio,

using technology and teamwork to solve real-world challenges.


How does it work?


Guided by a UVic Computer Science Student Mentor, and supported by Industry Experts, you and a team of 3-4 other students will design, code, and deploy a full-stack application centred around a given theme.

What will I learn?


The program focuses on the following key areas of software development:

  • Application design and user experience
  • Integration of various technologies
  • Data management and security

The 2022 Techccelerator teaches the following technologies to address the above concepts:

  • Javascript/HTML/CSS
  • EJS/Express/Node
  • SQLite
  • UI/UX/Wireframing
  • Git/Github
  • Agile Methodology

In addition, the program will address the folowing soft skills:

  • Analytical thinking and innovation
  • Complex problem-solving
  • Creativity, originality and initiative
  • Resilience, stress tolerance and flexibility
  • Leadership and social influence

Who Can Participate?


Students eligible to participate in HighTechU programs must satisfy all of the following criteria:

☑️ Be a high-school student, or home-learner, in Grade 9-12 living & studying in Canada.

☑️ Have an interest in learning through/about technology.

☑️ Be committed to cultivating a positive, safe, & inclusive learning environment for everyone in accordance with our Core Values & Code of Conduct.

How do I apply?


Applications to the Techccelerator will open soon. Let us know if you’re interested here, and we’ll reach out to you as soon as they open.

The application consists of some short answer questions to help us get to know you, then you will need to send us your most recent resume and a reference note from a teacher, coach, or other non-familial adult.

August 1st to 5th | Monday to Friday | 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Where does the program take place?


Due to ongoing challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 HightechU Techccelerator program will be virtual, hosted in real-time on Zoom and using a collection of digital tools.

What technology do I need to have?


Tools

Webcam: We encourage students to use a webcam during the program, but it is not strictly necessary.

Software: All necessary (free) software will be installed through the Pre-Techccelerator course.

Pre-Techccelerator Course

Once you have been accepted into a cohort, you will be sent a link to complete a short course that will walk you through building a fun personal website, and teach you all the technical skills you need to know to be successful in the program.

What is the cost?


The cost of the program is $400 (CAD) per student.
