Help Support HighTechU as a Parent Advocate in your School and Community

At HighTechU, we know that parents play a critical role in helping drive innovative learning opportunities in their community, and we are always looking for new ways to involve parents in our programs as volunteers, mentors and advocates in the community.

We also realize that in order for parents to advocate for the program, they need a well-rounded picture of what the program is all about.

With that in mind have put together a brief overview which we hope will help parents understand and advocate for HighTechU in their community.

Who? Based in the University of Victoria Faculty of Engineering, HighTechU is an innovative learning community & skills incubator for high-school-aged youth to make connections, build professional skills, and explore diverse education and career pathways related to technology.

What? High school students will learn about the technology industry, develop both hard (coding) and soft (innovation, communication, teamwork) skills needed for future success, and meet other high school students with similar interests.

Where? Most HighTechU Community events and the Academy are held at the University of Victoria.

When? As a member of the HighTechU Community, there are many opportunities for collaboration and learning as your student’s schedule allows, including on-line forums, special HighTechU events, a 7-week Saturday academy, and the opportunity to apply for a paid internship with a technology company in the summer.

Why? You don’t know what you don’t know. HighTechU introduces high school students to the potential opportunities of a career in the technology sector.

How much? There is a nominal fee to become a member of the HighTechU Community, and additional fee for the Academy, but HighTechU is committed to ensuring that programs remain accessible to students and therefore is able to provide bursaries for all aspects of the program.
