
Laila Abelseth
Co-Founder, Axolotl Biosciences
Laila is an Engineer and Entrepreneur with nearly half a decade of experience in the biotechnology research sector. Obtaining her Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering from the University of Victoria in 2018, and her Master of Science in Engineering Management from UCLA in 2021, Laila has been a mentor to aspiring scientists and engineers for almost a decade, through her roles with Science Venture, the Willerth Laboratory, and the Center for Biomedical Research at the University of Victoria. In 2020, alongside Drs. Stephanie Willerth and Laura De La Vega, Laila Co-founded the biotechnology company Axolotl Biosciences, a start-up that strives to advance the field of medical science through the use of a novel neurobioink. With a focus on cell culture and tissue engineering in her academic research, Laila hopes to use her work through Axolotl to contribute to advancements in tissue engineering and biological research which will hopefully lead to improved healthcare.
