The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is looking for youth and youth groups who want to learn new skills to make the world a better place this National Philanthropy Day. The AFP Vancouver Island Chapter has partnered with Coast Capital Savings to create the Coast Capital Savings Power of Youth: Giving Hearts Workshop, a do-it-yourself philanthropy toolkit that will give youth the skills to help people in their community.
We recognize the power of youth; when they believe in a cause and work with others, they can change the world. By collaborating with schools, youth councils, clubs, philanthropists, and other youth groups we will provide youth with a new foundation of understanding about philanthropy that they can apply within their community. This Toolkit can be facilitated with your group completely virtually or in person.
Thanks to the generosity of the Andrew D. Beckerman Fund at the Victoria Foundation, each youth group will be given the opportunity to provide a submission that demonstrates what they have learned about philanthropy and select a charity to receive a $250 donation through CanadaHelps.
One groups submission will be randomly chosen toreceive an additional $1000 to the charity of their choice thanks to the generosity of the Viveka Foundation at the Victoria Foundation.
How it works:
- Sign up for the Coast Capital Savings Power of Youth Giving Hearts Workshop and then watch your inbox for the Toolkit after October 1st
- Between October 1-31, 2020 work through the Toolkit reading and video materials, completing each of the discussion questions at your own pace (Entire workshop should take approx. 1.5 – 4 hours total depending on group speed and size)
- Submit the final Activity to firstname.lastname@example.org to receive $250 donation certificate for your chosen CanadaHelps charity and be entered to receive an additional $1000 to the charity of your choice.
- Celebrate National Philanthropy Day on November 15th to thank our community & celebrate your gifts!
By working through the Toolkit and completing the activities, youth will learn about philanthropy, what a philanthropist is, recognize philanthropy in their own lives, and apply these learnings to choose a charity to donate to through CanadaHelps.org. The final activity asks for a description of how they came to choose their selected charity by submitting a picture, video, or short description via email. These submissions will be compiled into a video highlighting the passion and generosity of youth in our community. Please note: this video will be shared on social media – by submitting a picture or video, you consent to usage and sharing of your image, or that of your child. If you do not want your image shared, provide a written submission instead.
Do you work with a youth club, council, classroom, group of young philanthropists? Do you have youth in your friend group, family or bubble? Would they be interested in taking part in our 2020 Coast Capital Savings Power of Youth: Giving Hearts Workshop and receiving up to $1250 to the charity of their choice?
